Lumberton

Lumberton, located on Highway 11 at the border of Lamar and Pearl River counties is the oldest settlement in Lamar County. The city has one of the most intriguing histories in the area; formerly an Indian village, Lumberton has been a part of three different counties since its settlement in what was the Marion County first district over 140 years ago.

Later, after incorporating in Pearl River County, Lumberton residents voted to become a part of Lamar County after a dispute with Pearl River County officials. Lumberton's economic profile includes oil discovery in the 1940's, pecan orchards and the Bass Pecan Company, and tung nut trees providing oil for polymer coatings. The city also has its own school district and the only airport in the county. Like other Lamar County communities, Lumberton takes pride in its history, the area's beauty, and its promising future.
